Geography

Our Geography curriculum is underpinned by a set of core knowledge and skills which are needed to ensure that the children progress seamlessly throughout their time at Goodyers End Primary.  Through captivating and dynamic teaching, we encourage the children to make links between their learning and to real-world contexts.

In EYFS and Key Stage One, the children are encouraged to ask geographical questions about their environment and lay the foundations of their map skills by devising simple maps.  In addition, they have the opportunity to discover further afield when they study the human and physical features of the UK, the oceans and the North  & South Poles, therefore feeding their curiosity about their place in the wider world.

Through engaging and creative topics, Key Stage Two enables the children to deepen their understanding of more complex maps and to observe how physical and human characteristics have changed over time. Furthermore, the children have opportunities to extend and develop their understanding of the world whilst enhancing their locational and place knowledge.

Attached below is the Knowledge and Skills Progression document for Geography.  This details the areas children will cover in various year groups.
